POSITION SUMMARY: The Esports Coordinator supports the development, management, and expansion of Hartford Public Schools’ districtwide esports programming. This position oversees daily operations of esports teams, ensures safe and developmentally appropriate use of gaming equipment, and provides guidance to school‑based coaches on practice planning, competition readiness, and digital citizenship. The Coordinator manages league registration, seasonal schedules, and communication with students, families, and school staff, while maintaining esports labs and collaborating with IT to ensure reliable technology. The role also collaborates with outside vendors to sponsor districtwide tournaments and events, tracks participation and performance data, and supports outreach efforts to increase equitable access to esports opportunities for students across all schools.e proactive support. This position requires a deep understanding of NCAA regulations, academic policies, and the unique challenges faced by student-athletes.

JOB EXPECTATIONS:

Program Oversight — Manage daily operations of districtwide esports programming, ensuring consistent quality, safety, and alignment with Hartford Public Schools athletics goals.

Coach Support — Provide guidance, resources, and troubleshooting support to school‑based esports coaches, including practice planning and competition preparation.

League Coordination — Handle league registration, match scheduling, rule compliance, and communication with league partners.

Data Tracking — Monitor participation, academic eligibility, attendance, and team performance; prepare reports for district leadership and grant documentation.

Communication — Maintain clear communication with students, families, coaches, school administrators, and league representatives.

Requi red Qualifications:

Candidate must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field. Must hold a current Coaching Permit issued by the CT State Department of Education, a valid First Aid & CPR certification, and a current Concussion Training or Refresher Course (Module 15). Must complete Mandated Reporter Training and any other required district training upon hire.

Preferred Qualification:

Experience in Esports Program Management - Prior experience coordinating esports teams, gaming labs, or digital athletics programs in a school or community setting.

Technical Proficiency - Strong working knowledge of gaming PCs, peripherals, networking basics, and common esports titles; ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues.

Coaching or Youth Development Background - Experience working with middle or high school students in athletics, clubs, or youth programs.

Knowledge of League Operations - Familiarity with esports league structures, match procedures, rule sets, and competition platforms.

Event Coordination Skills - Organize districtwide tournaments, showcases, scrimmages, and special events that promote student engagement and school pride.

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: $6800 Stipend - $3400 per season (Fall, Spring)
