Job Summary:

Newcastle Public Schools is seeking dependable, safety-minded individuals to join our transportation team as Bus Drivers. The primary responsibility of this role is to safely transport students to and from school, field trips, and athletic events while maintaining a safe, positive, and orderly environment on the bus.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Safe Transportation: Operate the school bus in a safe and efficient manner, strictly adhering to all local, state, and federal traffic laws and school district policies.

Pre/Post-Trip Inspections: Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections of the vehicle (checking brakes, lights, tires, fluids, etc.) and report any mechanical defects immediately.

Student Management: Maintain discipline and ensure student safety during transport; manage student behavior firmly and fairly, reporting significant infractions to the administration.

Emergency Readiness: Keep the bus clean, fueled, and equipped with required emergency supplies. Be prepared to execute emergency evacuation procedures if necessary.

Schedule Adherence: Follow designated routes and time schedules precisely, adapting safely to weather or traffic delays.

Qualifications:

Licensing: Must possess, or be eligible and willing to obtain, a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsements. (Note: Training may be provided for the right candidate).

Clearances: Must successfully pass a comprehensive criminal background check, a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical, and pre-employment/random drug screenings.

Record: A clean driving record with no major infractions.

Skills: Strong communication skills and a genuine desire to work positively with children of all ages.

Physical Demands:

Prolonged periods of sitting and driving.

Ability to pass the required DOT physical examination, including vision and hearing standards.

Occasional bending, stretching, and lifting to assist students or secure equipment.
