Lead Custodian

Position: Lead Custodian

Work Year: 52 weeks

Hours: 40 hours per week, second shift

Mon - Fri and Tue - Sat positions

Salary Range: $18.63

Reports To: Operations Supervisor

Position Summary

Provides custodial services at assigned site(s); ensuring an attractive, sanitary and safe environment for students, staff and visitors; performing a variety of special cleaning operations, and assisting in preparing facilities for classroom activities and building events.

Essential Functions Including But Not Limited To

Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; replace light bulbs; refill restroom dispensers, wash windows

Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures

Follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies

Setup and tear down of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.

Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets

Grounds clean up and snow removal as necessary

Helps to maintain building and door security

Perform minor maintenance in the building

Work collaboratively with building staff

Create positive relationships with students, staff members, and all building stakeholders

Helps to develop a daily custodial plan.

Helps with leadership of the custodial staff in cooperation with the Head Custodian, Complex Custodian, and Operations Supervisor

Other duties assigned by the building administrator or Operations Supervisor

Employment Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent required

Working knowledge of custodial work, including cleaning methods and materials and the use of custodial equipment equivalent to that gained in at least one year of experience or a combination of education and experience

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with the department team members, local travel in and around the school district, goal-setting ability, organizational skills, creative problem-solving ability, systematic planning, and the ability to plan for future needs

Previous custodial experience is preferred but not required

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. The use of ladders, power equipment, and other hand tools is a requirement of this position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers.
