When Filled - Bachelor's Degree required (Master's preferred)
- Connecticut teaching certification preferred but not required. Experience working with elementary-aged students, particularly in literacy or social studies instruction, is strongly preferred.
- Experience or coursework in literacy strongly preferred
- Knowledge of Connecticut Core Standards, inquiry-based learning, and differentiation
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
- Proficiency with instructional technology
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Must pass federal and local background checks
- Reliable transportation required
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
- Deliver engaging instruction and content-area literacy to support critical thinking
- Implement required support plans (IEPs, 504s, intervention plans, etc.)
- Foster a student-centered, inquiry-based classroom environment
- Integrate and model social-emotional learning and self-advocacy skills
- Assess student performance and use data to guide instruction
- Participate in MTSS, data, team, staff, attendance, and climate meetings
- Communicate proactively with families regarding student progress and classroom learning
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and administration to ensure continuity of instruction
- Attend professional learning aligned with district initiatives
Perform other duties as assigned by the school or district
- $183 per day
- This temporary assignment is anticipated to last approximately 14 consecutive workdays.
- Under the district's Short-Term Substitute classification, this position is not eligible for district-sponsored health insurance benefits, subject to applicable law and governing plan provisions.
- Must pass federal and local background checks.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must complete all pre-employment requirements before the start date.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Kent Center School is seeking a Short-Term English Language Arts & Social Studies Teacher for Grade 5. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality, inquiry-based literacy instruction while supporting student growth in academic and social-emotional skills.
Position Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Grade 5 Teacher will facilitate student success by implementing district-approved curriculum, delivering instruction aligned to Connecticut State Standards, differentiating to meet individual student needs, and fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
