Custodian

Reports to: Head Custodian, Building Principal, Superintendent

Terms of Employment: 12 months, full-time, 30-40 hours per week. Employed on an at-will basis according to our Board policies.

Purpose: The job of the custodian is to maintain clean and safe buildings at the school.

Qualifications: High school diploma or the equivalent.

Essential Functions:

Properly keep all district buildings neat and clean at all times

Vacuum, sweep, and mop hallways, stairs, and floors as needed throughout the buildings

Dust furniture and other areas as needed

Clean toilets, restroom sinks, floors, fixtures, and water fountains daily.

Wash and clean windows both inside and out as needed

Maintain storage areas to ensure trash free walkways

Performs other related duties as needed when asked

Reports damage of school property or any major repairs to the Director of Maintenance

Makes minor repairs when appropriate

Inventory on hand cleaning supplies and materials while requesting the replenishment of supplies in a timely manner. Assist in ordering supplies when needed.

Clean cafeteria and setup/takedown/storing of tables as needed

Scrub, strip and wax floors as directed

Complete emergency cleaning services and repairs when needed

Move equipment and furniture in the buildings as directed

Responsible for locking classrooms, windows, and buildings as well as checking for fire hazards.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Custodian and/or Superintendent

Ability to communicate information and ideas as well as exchange accurate information in specific situations with other staff.

Requirements

Must be able to adhere to the following:

Lift up to 50lbs

Be able to operate or learn to operate cleaning machines

Work with cleaning chemicals and supplies

Lift, sit, stand, bend, reach, push, pull, kneel, and ascend/descend to complete tasks when needed

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the board’s policy on evaluation of support staff personnel.
