Middle School Assistant Volleyball Coach

Position Summary

Williamsburg Independent School District is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and positive Middle School Assistant Volleyball Coach to join our athletic program. The Assistant Coach will work directly under the guidance of the Head Coach to teach foundational volleyball skills, foster sportsmanship, promote teamwork, and mentor student-athletes. The ideal candidate will cultivate an environment that balances athletic development with academic success and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Player Development

Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and executing daily practices focusing on volleyball fundamentals (passing, serving, setting, hitting, and footwork).

Help teach age-appropriate offensive and defensive strategies, rotation systems, and court positioning.

Provide constructive feedback and positive reinforcement to help student-athletes improve skill execution and game understanding.

Assist in monitoring player conditioning, wellness, and safety during practices and competitions.

Game & Program Management

Attend all practices, games (home and away), and team events throughout the middle school volleyball season.

Assist with match-day preparation, including equipment setup, bench management, keeping score/stats, and post-game cleanup.

Supervise student-athletes at all times in locker rooms, gymnasiums, and during travel to away games.

Serve as Acting Head Coach in the event of the Head Coach’s absence.

Leadership & Mentorship

Promote strong sportsmanship, discipline, academic excellence, and Jacket pride.

Build supportive, positive relationships with student-athletes while serving as a responsible role model.

Assist in enforcing district athletic codes, attendance policies, and academic eligibility requirements.

Maintain open, professional communication with student-athletes, parents, school staff, and opponents.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (required)

Experience: Previous playing experience (high school or collegiate) or coaching experience in volleyball preferred.

Knowledge: Sound understanding of middle school volleyball rules, fundamental mechanics, and safety guidelines.

Requirements & Certifications:

Must pass a background check as required by Williamsburg Independent School District.

Must complete all Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) and district-required coaching certifications (including First Aid/CPR, Sports Safety, and Concussion Awareness training) prior to the start of the season.

Skills: Excellent communication, leadership, patience, and organizational skills tailored to working with 6th–8th grade student-athletes.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Physical exertion including standing, walking, bending, demonstrating athletic movements, and lifting equipment up to 30 lbs.

Evening and occasional weekend hours required for games, tournaments, and practices.

Local travel required for away games.
