Middle School Assistant Boy's Basketball Coach

Position Overview

Williamsburg Independent School District is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Middle School Boys Basketball Assistant Coach to join our athletic program. The Assistant Coach will work closely with the Head Coach to teach foundational basketball skills, promote sportsmanship, foster personal growth, and develop a competitive, team-first environment for middle school student-athletes.

Key Responsibilities

Skill Development & Instruction: Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting daily practices focused on fundamental basketball skills, tactical understanding, physical conditioning, and game strategy.

Game Management: Support the Head Coach during home and away games with bench management, game adjustments, and student safety.

Student-Athlete Mentorship: Emphasize the importance of academic success, sportsmanship, discipline, and strong character both on and off the court.

Program Alignment: Help implement offensive and defensive concepts that align with the high school boys basketball program to ensure smooth athletic progression.

Supervision & Safety: Assist in supervising student-athletes during practices, games, locker room preparation, and travel. Ensure all district and KHSAA safety guidelines are strictly followed.

Administrative Support: Assist with inventory management of equipment/uniforms and maintain accurate team rosters and attendance records.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required

Experience: Prior playing or coaching experience at the middle school, high school, or youth league level preferred.

Certifications:

Valid KHSAA coaching requirements (or ability to obtain prior to the start of the season).

CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.

Mandatory NFHS/KHSAA safety training modules (e.g., Concussion Awareness, Heat Illness Prevention).

Background Check: Must pass all district-required state and federal criminal background checks and child abuse registry screenings.
