SALARY: Extra-Curricular Compensation Schedule (Category 1 - $4,250 - $5,600)
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Watertown Unified School District is seeking a knowledgeable, motivated, and student-centered individual to serve as the Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach at Watertown High School.
Athletics are an important extension of the educational experience, providing opportunities for student-athletes to develop leadership, teamwork, accountability, and character. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills while fostering a positive, competitive, and supportive environment.
The Head Coach will be responsible for the overall leadership, development, and direction of the girls basketball program, with an emphasis on building a strong program culture and promoting success both on and off the court.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, organize, and lead daily practices, competitions, and team activities.
- Provide leadership and oversight at all competitive levels, promoting consistency in coaching philosophy, skill development, and program expectations.
- Develop student-athletes through effective instruction in basketball fundamentals, individual skills, team concepts, and game strategy.
- Establish a positive team culture emphasizing sportsmanship, accountability, teamwork, and personal growth.
- Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, coaching staff, and school administration.
- Collaborate with assistant and lower-level coaches to support program continuity and long-term player development.
- Collaborate with the community youth basketball program to promote player development, strengthen relationships, and establish a consistent basketball philosophy from the youth levels through varsity.
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, team travel, and postseason events.
- Ensure compliance with district policies and WIAA regulations.
- Manage program-related administrative responsibilities in coordination with the Athletic Department.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous basketball coaching experience, preferably at the high school varsity level.
- Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, offensive and defensive strategies, and player development.
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, families, coaches, and school personnel.
- Commitment to academic achievement, sportsmanship, character development, and student well-being.
- Ability to establish a consistent coaching philosophy across all levels.
- Knowledge of WIAA and NFHS rules and regulations.
- Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications, or the ability to obtain required certifications prior to the season.

The Watertown School District has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students taught in seven buildings. WHS’s 75 teachers and 4 administrators serve 950 students on a 150-acre campus that includes two charter schools – Endeavor Charter School and eCampus Charter School. The team has excellent facilities available to them, including a Fitness Center. WHS is a member of the Badger Conference.
