Substitute Teacher

Position Summary:

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student learning in the absence of the assigned classroom teacher.

Substitute Teacher Rate:

The starting daily rate is $150 for a full day (7.5 hours) and $75 for a half day (all hours worked up to 4 hours). Please refer to the pay scale below for consecutive substitute teaching assignments:

Day 1- 10 = $150 per day

Day 11-20 = $160 per day

Day 21-30 = $170 per day

Day 31 + = $ 298 per day

Follow the regular teacher's written lesson plans and provide instruction to scheduled classes.

Assume the duties and responsibilities of the absent teacher.

Establish and maintain a positive learning environment.

Implement effective classroom management procedures and maintain high standards for student conduct.

Supervise students and ensure students are not left unsupervised.

Supervise non-classroom duties when assigned.

Consult with the principal and/or staff to resolve questions or concerns.

Follow all building procedures, schedules, board policies, and administrative procedures.

Promote the proper use and care of school property and technology.

Incorporate available technology as appropriate and follow computer technology acceptable use policies.

Communicate with school staff regarding special situations, concerns, or problems encountered.

Intervene in student concerns and report issues to an administrator as appropriate.

Work cooperatively with staff and parents.

Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of students and staff.

Take appropriate precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Prepare a written summary of work completed and provide relevant information to the regular classroom teacher.

Accept personal responsibility for decisions and conduct.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess a valid North Dakota Substitute Teaching License or North Dakota Teaching License. Must possess the ability to follow oral and written directions and instructions. Must possess effective oral and written communication skills. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and school administrators. Must possess the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions and concerns.

Supervision Received: This position is directly supervised by the Building Principal or designee.

Substitute Status Requirement: Substitutes who do not accept or complete an assignment within one full year will be removed from the active substitute system and required to reapply and complete updated hiring paperwork.
